Mabel gazed at her diamond ring.  It was a gift from her late husband.  It was all her fault as she recalled what had happened.

Show NOT tell Car park

Pale fluorescent light shone dimly as rows of cars lined the car park lots.  The air was stuffy and humid.  The place was deserted with no one in sight except for a couple, John and Mabel, made their way to the exit.

Mabel was rummaging through the chest of drawers for her precious diamond ring.  “Found it!” she exclaimed to herself in relief.  She immediately beamed a toothy smile.

“Why must you wear that diamond ring?” Jeremiah, her lanky husband, asked, rolling his eyes.

“I want to show off to my friends and they will just admire and go crazy over it!” she replied and set off with him to the posh hotel for a wedding dinner. They soon reached their destination and hopped off their Mercedes.   The car shone under the dim fluorescent light in the quiet car park.  Click-clack.  Mabel’s stiletto heels moved forward as she sashayed in an azure evening gown, her sweet-smelling perfume lingering around her.  Jeremiah was just a few steps ahead of her.
Problem
Unfortunately, unknown to them, three robbers were observing them, waiting for the right moment to strike.  Now is the time!  They thought.  The masked men with balaclavas over their faces then appeared out of nowhere, armed with baseball bats and glinting knives.  The shortest one boomed in a croaky voice, “Hand over all your valuables now!”  His beady eyes glared with baleful intent.

The couple gasped in horror.  Thinking that that they were done for, their faces blanched in trepidation while their mouths were agape in shock.  “Oh no!”  Mabel blurted out.

“Hand them over NOW!”  The other robber ordered with his knife pressing against Jeremiah’s neck.

Quickly, they rummaged for all the money and valuables and surrendered them to the robbers.
Problem worsens
“What about the diamond ring on your finger?”  The short robber hissed, pointing at her chubby finger.

“It’s…it’s fake!  It’s not worth anything,”  she stuttered and stammered softly.

A stinging slap flew across her face.  “Give us NOW or I will kill your beloved husband,” the leader of the gang thundered.

Swiftly, Mabel tried to pull it out but her finger was too fat.  No matter how hard she tried, the stubborn ring refused to budge.

“If you still don’t give us, we will slice it from you!”  He cackled an evil laugh.
Climax
All of a sudden, a wail of siren echoed through the air and pierced through the silence of the night.  The three flustered robbers immediately hopped into their motorcycles to make their escape.

In that instant, a dam of emotions burst within Mabel.   She let out an ear-splitting shriek, knelt down and starting crying non-stop.  Jeremiah hugged her and crooned, “It’s okay.  Everything is fine now!”

Fortunately for them, the policemen had already sealed the exits and arrested the robbers easily.  The couple later found out that it was the vigilant hotel security guards that had spotted the robbery scene via the surveillance camera and informed the police.

After the nerve-racking ordeal, they had no mood to go for the dinner and decided to make their way home.  Once home, Mabel tried to remove her diamond ring.  Strangely, it slipped off like a fish.  At that moment, the diamond sparkled even more alluringly.  Still, she placed it back in her chest of drawers and vowed to mend her ways and not be a show-off anymore.
