Writing Tips: Similes and Personification

Similes
as happy as a lark = as happy as a circus clown

as sturdy as an oak = as fit as an Olympic athlete

cannot move at all = as stiff as a metal pole

as free as a bird = as free as a wild stallion

as pale as death = as pale as a dying man

brave like a lion = as courageous as a fireman

thin as rake = as bony as a skeleton

hoarse as a crow = as hoarse as sandpaper

tough as leather = as stubborn as a strong-willed teenager 


 as wise as an owl = as wise as a judge


Personification

An stormy sea

The angry sea was tossing the boats back and forth violently

A speeding police car

The police siren was demanding that everyone should give way.

A hungry boy

His stomach was growling for food.

A malfunctioning computer

The computer made weird noises.

A serious family problem

The divorce was tearing the family apart.
