The library was as quiet as a tomb, except for the thumbing of pages. Justin stepped in and ambled straightaway to the comic section. Upon spotting his favourite comic series 'Batman', his eager outstretched hands immediately reached for one. He found a cosy spot and his head of unkempt hair was buried in his book.
Justin's attention was soon riveted on the mind-blowing plot. He was in such high spirits and the library was soon reverberated by his uproarious laughter that reverberated through the libary. His eager fingers were thumbing page after page. The comic was simply awesome! He was absorbing every single detail like a sponge. Finally, he finished the book with a satisfied murmur.
This was the best comic he had ever read! He was so unwilling to return the book to the shelf. Then, a spontaneous thought hit him like a bolt of lightning. Why not tear off his favourite page? It was a tempting idea too hard to resist. He shot quick furtive glances around his surrounding and 'rip' tore off the page!
Out of the blue, he was caught by the scruff of his collar. "What are you doing, boy?" the librarian hissed as she stared steely at him. She was mad with rage!
"I... I... " Justin was at a loss of words. He was shuddering with fear and his face bleached to a sombre pale. He returned her searing looks of rage with a piteous expression and started sobbing.
"Could you give me another chance?" the repentant boy pleaded meekly as he hung his head in shame.
"No!" The librarian refused. She gave him an earful and demanded that he had to pay a hefty fine for the torn book.
Poor Justin trudged home with his legs that felt like lead. He did not know how to break the news to his parents. He knew he was going to face the music and really regretted his moment of folly and vowed never to do that again.
