PSLE: Robbers at home

Xinjie skipped as her pigtails bounced in the breeze.  It was after school and Xinjie was fast approaching her house.  She took out the keys from her pocket.  She was about to open the main door when she noticed that the door was ajar.   Strange!  How could the door be opened?
Xinjie slowly opened the door.  She was horrified!  Her entire living room was in disarray.  All the furniture were tossed all over and shards of the vase lay on the floor.
Then, she heard some whisper.  Following the muted voices, Xinjie took a cautious peek and saw three figures moving about.  Xinjie’s eyes widened in horror.  On the bed was her mom, gagged and tied up.  Those were robbers.  Taken aback by what she saw, she let out a gasp of shock.
Unfortunately, a robber heard it.   The lanky one sprang open the door. She hissed, “There is a girl at the door!”
Xinjie yelled, “You robbers!  How dare you!”  She pounced on the lanky robber and scratched her face like a wild cat.
The robbers were too strong for her.  The two robbers then dragged her away and tied her up too. Xinjie screamed and struggled hard, but the robbers were too strong for her. Smack!  A slap flew across her face.  The tall robber, with all the scratches on her face, had just slapped her hard.   Xinjie could almost hear the ringing in her ears.  She started sobbing and big fat tears fell from her beady eyes.    Tied together with her mum, she could only see the robbers emptying the valuables in their bags.
All of a sudden, two policemen charged into the house and pointed the revolvers at them, shouting, “Hands up!  Police!”
Shocked to the core by this sudden chain of events, they stared at one another in disbelief and immediately surrendered.
The police apprehended them  and freed Xinjie and the mother.  An officer later explained that they were patrolling in the neighbourhood and heard Xinjie’s screams.  Xinjie was glad that she had saved her mother and the valuables.  This was a day that she would never forget!
