PSLE: A prank gone wrong

Ethan could not help smiling to himself as he waited patiently for his prey to appear. It was his buddy, Fraser 's birthday and he just wanted to play a prank on him.  He ticked the checklist one by one.       Phone in Ziplock bag in the cubicle. Check.  A pail of water at the door of the cubicle. Check.      Just then, the door swung open. It was Fraser.

Luckily for Ethan, he had hidden behind in the next cubicle. Time to strike, he thought to himself.

Fraser finally found relief, releasing his load into the urinal. Just then, "ring...ring...ring..." reverberated through the toilet. Overwhelmed with curiosity, he craned his neck to find the source of the sound. It obviously came from the first cubicle that was slightly ajar.

"Is anyone inside?" Fraser called out. There was no reply. Fraser knitted his brows together and contemplated for a moment.

He walked towards the cubicle and spotted a mobile on the floor of a cubicle with a slightly ajar door.  Should he just leave or take the phone to the school general office. Meanwhile, Ethan was cupping his hand over his mouth, ready to shout a loud "happy birthday" when Fraser picked it up.

The little gadget came alive again with its lively ringtones. Fraser entered hurriedly and there was a loud thump, followed by a splash but Fraser did not answer the call. Silence permeated the toilet. No more movement, no more sound, except for the ringing tone.

Something was wrong. Deadly wrong. After some major dithering, Ethan plucked up his courage and stepped out of the miniscule cubicle. The floor was drenched with puddles of water as if after a rain.     Fraser, like a soaked duck, was lying unconscious on the tiled floor.

Ethan rushed forward and cradled Fraser into his bosom. "Fraser, wake up, wake up!" Ethan yelled with great anxiety. There was no response. Fraser was like a dead log. Trepidation blanched Ethan's face white. With all his might, he dragged Fraser out of the toilet and screeched, "Help! Somebody, please help!"

A stout teacher, Mrs Lee, happened to be passing by and walked in fast steady strides to assist them. Sensing something amiss, she immediately called the ambulance which whisked Fraser off to the nearest hospital.

Fortunately, Fraser's injuries were not serious. Ethan went to visit and apologised copiously.   Of course, Ethan was forgiven readily but the school issued him a severe warning for his silly prank. As for Fraser, he had no choice but to spend his birthday at the hospital – with Ethan – of course.
